Welcome to the Greater San Fernando Valley Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. This will be a banner year for AFP in that we are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Philanthropy is not a new profession but AFP has led the way in elevating the profile and validating the profession of fundraising. Members in our chapter come from local non-profits and schools, social services agencies and healthcare-focused organizations, non-profit consultants and grant writers. We are considered small by comparison to many chapters but our diversity and openness make us stand out from other chapters. Of that we are very proud!
We invite you to join us for our monthly professional development meetings. These meetings are opportunities for professional fundraisers in our chapter and in our community to gather, learn from one another, hear a qualified professional from our field or a related field, trouble-shoot issues facing non-profits today and support each other in our professional growth and career goals. Each meeting is a chance to get to know other members, other professionals in the San Fernando Valley and share ideas. Being a small-sized chapter gives our members the opportunity to get to know each other fairly well.
2010 is the 50th anniversary of AFP. This is an international organization with over 30,000 members. Please check out our calendar for information on this remarkable achievement and how our chapter is celebrating.
Each person on this planet has something to offer to the world but many never strive to reach their full potential. Those of us in AFP strive every day to be better fundraisers, better colleagues, better employees and better people. We strive to make our agencies stronger and able to serve more people, to raise more funds to ensure support for those who need it most, and to lift up the profession of fundraising. As non-profit employees, we have taken the first step in making this world a better place. We hope you will join us on this journey as professional fundraisers. The world is waiting!
